Flutter interviews test two things: how well you know Dart, and whether you understand what Flutter does when your widgets rebuild. These notes cover both, one idea per page, with short snippets you can run in DartPad or hot reload in an emulator.

What makes these Flutter notes different?

  • Answers to the classic questions. final vs const, Stateless vs Stateful, hot reload vs hot restart, Expanded vs Flexible and Provider vs Riverpod vs Bloc, each with a clear rule.
  • What happens under the hood. The State lifecycle diagram, the widget, element and render trees, BuildContext and why keys matter when a list changes.
  • Real app patterns. go_router, form validation, fromJson models, FutureBuilder without repeated API calls, secure token storage, testing and release builds.
  • A quiz. Fifteen "what prints, what rebuilds" questions that catch the usual mistakes.

How should you use these Flutter notes?

Run the Dart pages in DartPad first, then build a small app and change it while reading the widget, lifecycle and layout pages. Before the interview, go through the Q&A page, the quiz and the cheat sheet on the last page.

This is Part 20 of the series. For the object-oriented ideas Dart builds on, see the OOPs handwritten notes.

FAQ

Questions about these notes

Are these Flutter notes really free?

Yes. The full 26-page PDF is free; email me to request the complete PDF. Share it with friends preparing for placements.

Do the notes cover Dart as well as Flutter?

Yes. The first third covers Dart: variables, null safety, functions, classes and constructors, mixins and extensions, Dart 3 records, patterns and sealed classes, Futures, Streams and isolates. The rest covers Flutter itself.

Is state management covered?

Yes. The notes explain ephemeral vs app state and compare setState, InheritedWidget, Provider, Riverpod and Bloc/Cubit in one table, with short Provider and Cubit examples and when to pick each.

Are the notes up to date with Flutter 3 and Dart 3?

Yes. They use sound null safety, Dart 3 records, patterns, sealed classes and class modifiers, the Impeller renderer, Isolate.run and go_router.
