  1. 01What is the difference between C and C++?

    C is a procedural language; C++ is multi-paradigm — procedural + object-oriented + generic (templates). C++ is almost a superset of C and adds classes, references, overloading, exceptions and the STL.

    EasyMost asked

  2. 02What are the four pillars of OOP in C++?

    Encapsulation, Abstraction, Inheritance and Polymorphism. Name one C++ feature for each.

    EasyMost asked

  3. 03struct vs class in C++?

    In C++ they are almost the same. The only difference is the default access: struct members and base classes are public by default, class ones are private.

    Easy

  4. 04Pointer vs reference — what's the difference?

    A pointer is a variable that stores an address; it can be null and re-pointed. A reference is an alias (another name) for an existing object; it must be initialised, can't be null and can't be re-seated.

    EasyMost asked

  5. 05What is the this pointer?

    this is a hidden pointer to the current object, passed automatically to every non-static member function. Inside Box::f() its type is Box* (or const Box* in a const method).

These are the 50 C++ questions that come up again and again in campus placements and fresher interviews, from "C vs C++" to move semantics and an LRU cache. Each answer starts with a short version you can say in 20 seconds, then explains why, with code and output.

What do the 50 C++ questions cover?

  • OOP and classes. The four pillars, struct vs class, constructors, the copy constructor, Rule of 3/5/0, friend, static and const.
  • Polymorphism. Virtual functions, how the vtable and vptr work, abstract classes, virtual destructors, object slicing and the diamond problem.
  • Memory. Pointers vs references, new vs malloc, leaks and dangling pointers, smart pointers, RAII and undefined behaviour.
  • STL and modern C++. Container complexities, vector internals, map vs unordered_map, iterator invalidation, lambdas, move semantics, perfect forwarding and C++11–20 features.
  • Output and coding rounds. Predict-the-output questions, plus a String class, unique_ptr, a thread-safe Singleton and an LRU cache written in full.

How should you prepare with this PDF?

Read the short answer, say it out loud, then read the detailed answer and compile the example yourself. Questions marked most asked come up first in most interviews, so start there. The night before, go through the last pages: all 50 answers in one line each.

This is Part 2 of the Interview Q&A series. To learn each topic in depth first, see the C++ handwritten notes.

FAQ

Questions about this PDF

Is this C++ interview questions PDF free?

Yes. The full 56-page PDF with all 50 questions and answers is free; email me to request the complete PDF.

Is it suitable for freshers?

Yes. Questions go from easy (1–15) to medium (16–35) to hard (36–50), so freshers can start with the basics and work up to move semantics, the diamond problem and coding questions asked in product-company interviews.

Do the answers include code?

Almost every answer has a short, compilable C++17/20 example with its output, plus a short answer to say first, the common trap, and the follow-up question interviewers usually ask next.

How is this different from the C++ handwritten notes?

The C++ handwritten notes (Part 2) teach the language topic by topic. This PDF is organised by interview question, with answers written the way you would say them, and ends with all 50 answers in one line each for last-minute revision.
